New Christmas Story!

Vickie has written a cute, stand-alone, Christmas story using the characters from her series.

Two children,Amy and James and their cat, Kiwi; must help a star rescue a fairy from a witch and help them return to Santa before Christmas!

Their adventure flows easily and will keep all children enthralled!

I love how she shares moral values so smoothly. Reminds all the true reason for this most precious season.

I enjoyed the descriptions of Cat City and Santa's Grotto.

Such a wonderfully vivid imagination!

Kiwi continues his adventures with Amy and James

This latest installment to the Kiwi Series is a Christmas story in which Kiwi, Amy, and James help a star rescue his fairy friend from the clutches of an evil witch who is holding her captive in a haunted house. Their adventures take them back to Cat City to enlist the help of old friends such as Siam and Inspector Furrball. In an enchanting twist, they wind up meeting Father Christmas and traveling with him around the world and eventually to his magical realm of Snowfell.

Kiwi's Christmas Tail is a delightful book filled with magical adventures and great teachable moments to entertain and delight your children. Great reading for the entire family. Again, the Kiwi series of adventures delivers magic and love. Very enjoyable.

Love the Christmas Story

KIWI'S CHRISTMAS TAIL by Vickie Johnstone

Kiwi books are inspired by a fluffy black cat that Vicki Johnstone once owned and now is on the other side. The Christmas tail is about a Christmas Fairy that was stolen by a green witch with her toad and a Star that was hiding in a store till Amy and James' mother bought it and brought him home. The star and fairy need to get back to Father Christmas before Christmas Eve or it will take another year before they get another chance to get home. Read the book and go on an adventure like you wouldn't believe.

You will have to read this lively story about how Kiwi and the children aid the Christmas Fairy and Star home. Magic is involved but check out what the children will be offered when they get to Father Christmas' home. This a really fun, exciting, unexpected adventure that could only be written with Kiwi as the main character. The Kiwi series is one of my favorite series of children's books.

About the Author
Rob Brooker (Ph.D., Yale University) received his B.A. in biology at Wittenberg University, Springfield, Ohio, in 1978. At Harvard, he studied lactose permease, the product of the lacY gene of the lac operon. He continues working on transporters at the University of Minnesota, where he is a Professor in the Department of Genetics, Cell Biology, and Development and has an active research laboratory. At the University of Minnesota, Dr. Brooker teaches undergraduate courses in biology, genetics, and cell biology. In addition to many other publications, he has written two undergraduate genetics texts published by McGraw-Hill: Genetics: Analysis & Principles, 4th edition, copyright 2012, and Concepts of Genetics, copyright 2012.

Great book for introducing yourself to genetics

Best selling genetics textbook for a reason. This made genetics an easy A for me. It takes the scary out of what many consider a difficult (undergrad) biology course. He leaves a lot of holes (that only an advanced genetics student would notice) but this text is meant for intro type genetics courses (still 4xx/4xxx level) not advanced genetics or human genetics. If you like Brooker's Biology textbook you'll enjoy this. Not sure why one reviewer thought it was poorly written/organized. Are you sure you are referring to his 4th edition? First 3 editions maybe, but not this one.

Still accurate and just as good! Save money!

I find it hard to write reviews about text books. This one is no exception. The text is informative and accurate. The language and format is easy to understand, and the illustrations do a great job of, well, illustrating key points. I purchased it for a genetics course, and while a newer edition is available, I can say that this edition is still just as accurate. You can save yourself some money by purchasing this edition instead.

Not "Balanced," but worth a read if interested in the subject

This book is touted as a "balanced" discussion of the subject matter. Not so. It is decidedly slanted towards the viewpoints of museums and collectors and shortchanges other viewpoints, including those of archaeologists and others determined to halt looting of cultural sites and the trade in illicit antiquities. One example of bias: While reading the chapter on the Portrait of Wally litigation, I was conviced that the author did not understand the legal process because so much of what of what he lamented actually made sense in terms of how a litigation progresses. Was I shocked to find that not only was the author a lawyer, but he was a lawyer for one of the parties in that lawsuit (notably the one who didn't win many of the court's rulings). How can you expect a balanced perspective from someone like that? He is entitled to his opinion, but he was a sore loser who twisted the description of the legal process in order to make his point. While I found it worthwhile to read these perspectives, I felt that I had been duped into buying this book on the premise that it actually represented many points of view.

Rises above the hyperbole

Who Owns the Past is exactly what it purports to be, a compilation of views written by people with a wealth of knowledge and direct experience in the intricate world of cultural property preservation. The Review by Amy-D above is unfortunately an ideological polemic that belongs in a blog, not in a review. Anyone who wishes to learn about the issue must study and evaluate the arguments presented by diverse and sometimes conflicting interests. This book presents a position that is certainly germane to the discussion and one that any rational thinker will be able to appreciate. It is insightful, intelligent and surprisingly inexpensive. I highly recommend it.

The below review is extremely unfair

This book is not a multi-page lamentation on how various people are "oppressed" by the evil rich collectors who steal their culture for the sake of owning curios. This book is written from a very balanced perspective that takes into consideration the textural aspects of this issue, from both a cultural patrimony standpoint and one of the antiques trade.

If you are looking for a book that will reaffirm your belief that the "evil rich collectors" are oppressing the poor ethnic peoples, this isn't it. If you are looking for a book that is blame-centric and seeks to demonize people who can afford to buy antiquities, this isn't it either.

If you are looking for a cool-headed, honest assesment of the issue that takes into account all parties involved, you will be well served with this book.
