Great advice

This is so helpful! Finally, a book about improving memory that doesn't just focus on all the science behind it so much that it fails to deliver some strategies behind them, leaving the reader without retaining anything of any importance and with no solid techniques.
I've read so many memory books that just seem to be filled with useless information that is so boring that even with the most sophisticated technique it would still be near impossible to retain, the only thing I remember about these other books are how useless they are! This definitely isn't the case with this book, it covers so many bases while being entertaining at the same time - it actually kept me engaged the whole way throughout and I really can say I learned some great techniques and a good background behind memory. This read is really easy to understand and packed full of useful information, I really think that anyone could learn something by reading this.

A method that works

Back in high school I studies pretty well and was alway a high achiever. I however, left thigh school 10 years ago and have not studied since. I am due to start college soon and finally do a Computer Science degree however my study retention is not what it used to be. I have read other books previously on memory improvement and had little or no success with any of them. This one takes a completely different approach to all the others I have tried and most importantly this one actually works if you implement it.

Overall an excellent book that really will improve your memory. Highly recommended.

Remembering more is a matter of survival

A different take on improving your memory. Rather than being about pure memory improvement, the author offers a different approach. It puts alot of focus into controlling what you need to remember and tapping into the original need for our memory, survival. The later book offers some well-known methods of improving your memory through daily training.

Excellent book on Streaming analytics with Spark

Excellent book - very well written, well organized - not too verbose up to the point and lot of material covered as well.
The book contains exactly what one needs to get up and running with Spark - it is an intermediate level book. Programs are well written and have detailed comments on why the code is written in the way it is written. Both Scala and Java code have been covered.
Good coverage of SQL in Streaming, especially chapter 6 also discusses a novel way to use SQL to query GraphX.
I would definitely recommend this book.

Spark Streaming captured clearly, adequately

Spark Streaming has many moving parts and initially proved to be a somewhat tough area of spark programming to sort out. The spark site has the introductory, elementary examples that whet your appetite and excite one's imagination about the interesting possibilities. However how to set up the various sources , analyze the data in real time , and direct the output to system output and or persistent storage initiaally had me struggling and lost many a times. This work turned out to be a great helping hand enabling me to rapidly comprehend the exciting technology. One has to have some familiarity with basics of spark to be able to understand relatively advanced, specialized streams such as grpxh, spark-streaming, machine learning. In any book on the specialized aspects, a critical bit is the balance between detailing the foundations necessary to understand the subject and the subject itself. The minimum neccessary basics are captured – should be an easy decision for a reader to breezily peruse or skip them all together. Many combinations beggining from a basic word counting example streaming data from a terminal window to various input sources such as flume, cassandra and finer grained, more specialized analysis such as graphx, spark sql are presented clearly. The supporting data and source code simplify one's life setting the examples up and udnerstand by running, coding the examples oneself. Setting up , packaging and runnng spark jobs, deploying them in varied setup scenarios – standalone, on a yarn , mesos cluster are adequately captured. On the whole, a work that competently acquaints you with enough facets of the subject to make you feell knowledgable of the subject and at ease with it.
It would be amiss to not mention the audhor's helffullness in resolving problems readily. Stuck in one example on account of libraries carelessly copied into the spark library directory – aftet having tried myriad combinations – found the author's email address in the README in the source code– referred the problem and was pleased to receive prompt responses and have the problem resolved over few email exchanges.

Very comprehensive treatment of Spark Streaming

This book provides a very comprehensive treatment of Spark Streaming. It begins with Spark installation and configuration and setting up your IDE (Eclipse) and goes all the way to packaging your Streaming application and deploying (standalone / Yarn / Mesos) and monitoring your application. It uses a Distributed Log Processing example to demonstrate various functionalities as one proceeds through the book. For external input and output, the book provides examples for Flume and Cassandra respectively. It also provides an example of integrating Streaming with GraphX. Examples are provided in both Java and Scala. The book also has quite a bit of theory about Spark to explain the reasoning behind Streaming configuration choices, as well as background to DStreams and windowing.

Overall the book should be a useful guide to anyone building Spark Streaming applications, either in Java or Scala. If you are already familiar with Spark, some of the material may be redundant, but the book is aimed at people who are new to Spark and who want to get into Spark Streaming.

Depression-era America created a crisis of authenticity and relevance for artists, intellectuals and those in the communications industries. The result, says Stott, was a new form of public art, focused on everyday people and based in fact. Readable and persuasive, Stott's book is as fresh and memorable today as it was when it first came out in the mid-'70s. For anyone interested in the '30s, in the Depression era, or in documentary photography, this is a must-read.

John Polkinghorne is a unique individual; an accomplished particle physicist, he decided to change careers about 30 years ago to become a minister of the Anglican church. A Templeton prize winner, his writing style is lucid and accessible. Questions of Truth is a departure from classics such as Exploring Reality and The Faith of a Physicist in that it is a collaboration between Polkinghorne and his associate Nicholas Beale, who helps with the deluge of e-mail that Polkinghorne receives.

This book, while quite short, covers a great deal of ground and effectively signposts the reader to other books by Polkinghorne that deal with specific subjects in greater depth. (page 81) "Every so often in the history of the universe something intrinsically new emerges from within the deep potentiality with which creation has been endowed. This happened with the coming-to-be of life and again with the dawning of animal consciousness. I believe it also happened in the genus Homo with the emergence of human self-consciousness." (page 68) "At some point in hominid evolution, self-consciousness - a deep self-awareness and the power to project our thought far into the future - dawned on our ancestors. At the same time, I believe that a new form of God-consciousness also dawned for them. This was a little over my head and I have been studying the subject for years; since graduate school and as a campus minister at University of Alabama. He is a great author,however.
